Overall concept and interpretation of Alban Berg’s opera Lulu by Olga Neuwirth

In 1950s New Orleans, a young dancer’s world is slowly torn apart by the jealous and controlling men and women desperate to be her lover. As the seductive and scarred Lulu looks back at her life, she faces a sordid history of sex, murder and suicide.

This radical reworking of Alban Berg’s unfinished opera will transport audiences to the smoky jazz clubs of the Deep South against the backdrop of the civil rights movement.
American Lulu will open at the Bregenzer Festspiele in August 2013, followed by a UK tour culminating in September at the Young Vic.

With the help of her friends, Chulak and Hamlet, the love-sick elephant, Lila faces pirates, tigers and the terrifying Fire-Fiend on her perilous quest. Will Lila find out what the three gifts really mean?

The Firework Maker’s Daughter is a new opera by award-winning composer David Bruce and librettist Glyn Maxwell – based on the fairy-tale adventure by acclaimed children’s author Philip Pullman.
