The Big Give 2011

For the second year running, The Opera Group is one of the charities that has been selected to participate in The Big Give Christmas Challenge, in which donations of £10 – £5,000 made online between 5 – 9 December will be doubled by match-funding from the Reed Foundation.

Last year we raised more than £25,000 in the Challenge, and this year we aim to reach a target of over £30,000, all of which will go towards our 2012 commissions; Babur In London (music by Edward Rushton, words by Jeet Thayil) and The Firework Maker’s Daughter (music by David Bruce, words by Glyn Maxwell) based on the popular novel by Philip Pullman.

Individuals provide crucial funding for The Opera Group’s many projects, ranging from specific productions to supporting individual singers. We want to involve supporters in our projects and offer an insight in to the development of new opera.

To give you an idea of the difference your donation can make:

£50: Enable us to work with a pianist for a rehearsal
£500: Provide a rehearsal room for a week
£1,000: Sponsor one of the singers
£5,000: Make a major contribution towards commission costs.

The impact of your gift

Your donation: £200
Gift Aid: £56
Matching funds from Reed Foundation: £200
Total donation to The Opera Group: £456

How to participate in The Big Give and double your donation

There is never a better time to make a donation to The Opera Group. The Challenge will launch on Monday 5 December and run until Friday 9 December. At 10am on each of the five days funds from the Reed Foundation are released which will double any donation made online before these funds expire each day. Donations need to be made online  and made as near to 10am as possible before the match funding runs out each day.
