Alongside our production of Seven Angels this summer, The Opera Group will offer a mentoring project for emerging composers and writers with the aim of allowing them to develop their skills in working with a professional company, and for the company to benefit from a sustained relationship with new talent. The project will be in two parts:
Masterclass
An opportunity for 15 emerging writers and 15 young composers to take part in a two-day masterclass on 9 & 10 April with acclaimed artists, composer Julian Phillips (pictured) and librettist Simon Christmas.
Intensive Mentoring Project
Following this unique event, one composer and one writer will be commissioned to come together to write a mini-opera to be produced by The Opera Group. From April, the participants will work, under the mentorship of Philips and Christmas, towards a public performance in July.
